Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

We desire all who attend the Sydney Single Adult Mini Convention to have a wonderful and uplifting experience. To achieve this, we have published this Code of Conduct so that appropriate behaviour and standards are maintained throughout the convention. All SA, Priesthood Leaders and friends attending convention are to abide by the standards described in this document and our time together will be a representation of adults that have learned to live and exemplify correct principles, to govern themselves and take responsibility for their feelings, thoughts, actions, and decisions.

Doctrinal basis of standards

The Lord has said "Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly" (D&C 121:45). The natural follow on principle is found in the thirteenth article of faith"... if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." By maintaining high standards at convention, SA will have a wonderful, uplifting and positive experience, and the good name of the Church will be maintained in the community.

We will be adopting the standards as described in For the Strength of Youth. We desire this convention to be of a high standard with respect to dress, appearance and conduct and have provided specific direction in relation to the minimum acceptable standards below.

We recognize and celebrate the cultural diversity of all attending convention. The following policies have been put in place with respect to behaviour:

  • All SA are to follow the direction of Priesthood leaders and convention leaders at all times.
  • Respect must be shown to residents in the area of events. Loud noise and bad behaviour at any hour that disturbs others is unacceptable.
  • Absolutely no alcohol, smoking or non-prescription drugs on the event premises at any time. Anyone affected by these substances may be excluded from any further participation.
  • Any form of violence, threat of violence or bullying to a person or their property will not be tolerated.
  • Sexual harassment and any unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated. Actions, words, jokes or comments that are derogatory and based on any person's gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion or disability will not be tolerated.
  • Any person identified with gangs will be excluded. This includes the wearing or showing of any gang identity items. All persons are to be treated with respect, and dignity.
  • Swearing and coarse language offends the speaker, the hearer and the spirit and is unacceptable on any occasion.
  • Appropriate use of Technology must be managed during convention, including taking and sharing photos. Ensure that your phone is turned off for Sunday meetings.

Any Single Adult who violates the code of behaviour may be asked to leave convention.
